Setting Realistic Priorities: May Goals

Happy Monday!
 Image from
One part I love about blogging is reading other blogs to get ideas on everything - making baby food, clothing to buy, recipes to make, and DIY tutorials. Over the weekend, I came across a post about monthly goals while reading fellow blogger Myrabev over at ajulydreamer. I instantly thought what a fantastic idea this was. It got me thinking about how 2015 is almost half over. How is this even possible?
I can deny it all I want, but we are already in May.
Then I got thinking about everything that I've wanted to do lately. And how honestly, I've been an epic fail at it.
Spring cleaning? Yeah, right. Who has time for that when you're a working mama and you're flying solo half the month because you're husband is away on business trips. {I don't say this in a condescending manner at all - I love his job. I love that he loves his job. I love the benefits his company provides. I love the salary. I love the overtime}. But realistically, when he's gone, the last thing I want to do is scrub floors and wash the refrigerator shelves.
JB's baby books? #badmom status over here. I was all excited about Shutterfly and getting good deals. But then I went back to work and totally put those on the back burner. I take so many pictures of Elizabeth that I can surely sit down and do it. It's just an overwhelming task now that I'm 7 months behind.
I could go on, but let's not.
Let's move forward.
We're already in the first full week of May, which means I have four weeks to accomplish things on my list.
My list?
Yes. I love making lists. Every teacher does. There's just something exhilarating about making a list on pretty paper and then crossing it off. You know you do too. And you know you write things down that you've already done, just so you can cross them off.
I have about 27 days left to work on this list. There isn't something for every day (well there is - but I don't consider it my May Goals).
Here's what I'd like to do for the remainder of this month:
  • Add both of my masters' degrees to my Florida Teaching Certificate. (Yep - graduated with one in 2010 and one in 2014 and neither have been added. Why you ask? Because it's ridiculously expensive). I need to just suck it up.
  • Complete a few of JB's baby books. I can easily do this. I can work on a few pages every week night as I'm reading blogs and then finish up on the weekend.
  • Start to plan JB's first birthday party. And by plan I mean start a Pinterest board. Everything good comes off of Pinterest, right!?!?!
  • Hit the gym 4 times a week - which means 16 days before the end of the month. My plan of attack is to go after school before I pick up the little munchkin from daycare.
  • Invite my brother and his girlfriend over for a dinner party. He lives about 25 minutes away and we don't see each other nearly enough!
Hopefully next month I'll be able to report back that I've accomplished everything on my May Goals list!
Hopefully this won't be me! HA!
What's on your list for this month?

  1. I do a goals post each month too and it does help to keep me accountable! Great goals!

  2. I haven't done a goal post in sometime. I wish I still did to feel like I had some one to answer too. Sounds silly right?!?! I think my list at this point would be soooooo long!

    1. Oh my real list would be pages long, but it's all about choosing to prioritize that list!!!

  3. Get it girl! Lists are great! The feeling is even better when you get to cross them off. You are so right about pinterest, there are so many good party planning ideas.

  4. This is great! I try to keep my goals posted in a place I see them every morning in order to orient myself to work towards them each day!

  5. I love goals and I love lists, good luck with yours! I've been checking off things on my "to-do before baby gets here" list and catching up on my kids' scrapbooks is on there as well. It seemed really overwhelming to me too, but once I got going, it started snowballing and it seemed much more manageable!

  6. I use lists too to keep things in mind and they always work. Good luck with your goals and tasks!

  7. Coming from The Blog Love Project and shedding you some love. I love your goal list. I need to start monthly goals to stay on track. Good luck with the gym goal, I am striving for that too. #Support!!

  8. I think my only goal this month is to get through the rest of the school year.

  9. I'm also a huge list-maker! My second baby is due at the beginning of June, so my May list is all about baby prep—washing clothes, packing my hospital bag, stuff like that.

  10. I think these are great goals. I finally sat down and made some goals for the month too. I think it's important to have a list and goals to keep you on task. Good luck this month!

  11. I also need to work on #3's baby book..and #2's. This is a great list! Thank you for sharing...I invite you to please come share this and link up with me, starting tomorrow at 6p! Others will love this!
Have a wonderful week! xx Ashleigh @SimplyWright

  12. Busy lady! I know how it feels to not get everything done on your list, but look how lucky you are to have all of those wonderful things to share!

  13. I need to do that. LOL! It takes forever to do the albums and I just can't seem to find the time.

  14. I feel your pain! I'm working on my list for the year too :) You got this!

  15. Whoot Whoot!!!! You go girl!!
That photo is 100% me!! Lololol
I procrastinate all month then in one day pump out 100 projects that I let slide for 39 days....
I'm not sure whether it's a good quality or bad.. Hahahah

I am with you on this though. I seriously need to prioritize and get my butt working every day instead of one day a week.. Sometimes month... :))))

  16. I can totally relate about the photos - I've been meaning to sort mine out for years!

  17. Omg what a list you made!!!! Good luck on adding your masters :)
